Ulysses' Shelter: building writers-in-residence network

organizes literary residences for young writers, translators and editors. The project will begin at the end of 2018 at three locations - in Ljubljana, Larissa and in Pomena on the island of Mljet, organized by Sandorf publishing house from Zagreb, in partnership with Slovenian Writers' Society (DSP) from Ljubljana and publishing house Thraka from Larissa. Each resident will spend three weeks on each location from December 2018 to October 2019, and the idea of the project is to gradually extend the network of partners to other European countries in the future and to bring together artists from around the world and expose the creative potential of various European locations. Tovar.hr is the main means of informing about the Ulysses' Shelter project - about the residents, their work, and events within the project (readings, workshops, conferences and social events with residents).

ULYSSES' SHELTER LAUREATE FOR 2023/2024

As a part of Ulysses' Shelter 3 project, Sandorf introduced a special feature to popularize the project among the European literary audience and to give importance to the emerging Croatian writers and poets: each year of the project, Sandorf will choose one laureate among the previous Croatian residents of the Ulysses' Shelter project. The chosen laureate for that year will travel to several destinations of the project partners' countries and present their work at the partners' literary festivals and other events. The laureate for 2023/2024 is the poet Maja Ručević, who was the Croatian participant in the Ulysses' Shelter network of literary residencies in 2021.

Maja Ručević (1983, Zagreb) graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb with majors in Croatian and French. She works as a translator from French and English and is the winner of three poetry prizes. Her debut novel Je suis Jednoruki (Algoritam, 2016) was short-listed for several awards. In 2023 her first book of poems Sutra ćemo praviti anđele u padu was published (HDP, 2023.). Her work has been published online and in literary magazines and anthologies. She is currently working on a new work of fiction. She has translated over twenty titles from French (contemporary fiction, theoretical literature, children's literature).
