Ulysses' Shelter: building writers-in-residence network

organizes literary residences for young writers, translators and editors. The project will begin at the end of 2018 at three locations - in Ljubljana, Larissa and in Pomena on the island of Mljet, organized by Sandorf publishing house from Zagreb, in partnership with Slovenian Writers' Society (DSP) from Ljubljana and publishing house Thraka from Larissa. Each resident will spend three weeks on each location from December 2018 to October 2019, and the idea of the project is to gradually extend the network of partners to other European countries in the future and to bring together artists from around the world and expose the creative potential of various European locations. Tovar.hr is the main means of informing about the Ulysses' Shelter project - about the residents, their work, and events within the project (readings, workshops, conferences and social events with residents).

Ulysses' Shelter at the Frankfurt Book Fair

Sandorf Publishing and Mljet National Park held a presentation of the joint project "Ulysses' Shelter - literary residency on island Mljet" at the Croatian collective stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair on Wednesday, October 16. Participants of the presentation were Margarita Polzer (Mljet National Park), Diana Dabelić (Mljet National Park), and Ivan Sršen (Sandorf).

The guests of the presentation were able to hear more about the experience of the writers visiting the residency and about many different features of Mljet National Park, and its protection program of the endangered biological species.

Ulysses Shelter is a project of exchange residencies for emerging writers and translations with eight partners across Europe. Launched by the Croatian publisher Sandorf in 2018, it has become one of the important European networks of residencies, which encourages new contacts, collaborations and translation. Partner countries are Slovenia (DSP-SWA), Greece (Thraka), UK (LAF), Serbia (Krokodil), Spain (Mallorca Film Commission), Czech Republic (Culture Reset) and Malta (Inizjamed). The project is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
