Ulysses' Shelter: building writers-in-residence network

organizes literary residences for young writers, translators and editors. The project began at the end of 2018 in three locations - Ljubljana, Larissa and Pomena on the island of Mljet, organized by Sandorf Publishing from Zagreb, in partnership with Slovenian Writers' Society (DSP) from Ljubljana and publishing house Thraka from Larissa. Each resident spends three weeks at each location from December 2018 to October 2019. The network of partners has since extended to include Literary Association Krokodil from Belgrade, Literature Across Frontiers from Wales, Inizjamed from Malta, Culture Reset from the Czech Republic, and Mallorca Film Commission from Spain. The idea of the project is to bring together artists from around the world and expose the creative potential of various European locations. Tovar.hr is the main means of informing about the Ulysses' Shelter project - about the residents, their work, and events within the project (readings, workshops, conferences and social events with residents).

Ulysses' Shelter 3 Closing Meeting

Between March 5 and March 7, the Ulysses' Shelter partners held an in-person meeting on Mljet, which was the starting point of the residency program and of forming the web of partners. With this meeting, the third cycle of the project draws to a close. The partners gathered during Greek poet Danai Sioziou's stay, and a literary event was organized, alongside consortium meetings where the past three years of the program were reviewed and the first steps of a new cycle were discussed. The new cycle is planned to include new partners who will further build on the concept of residencies and provide new perspectives to the partner network. The official meeting was held in Kulijer's Volunteer Center, which was provided to us by the Croatian partner on the project, the Institutional Organization of National Park Mljet, while the literary evening, which featured readings from Danai Sioziou, Matko Abramić, Antej Jelenić, Nici Beech, and Ivan Sršen was held in the Babino Polje Cultural Center, sponsored by Mljet Municipality.
